SEGD’s Global Design Awards—Fort Needham Memorial Park

Fort Needham Memorial Park, finalist

Each year the Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) honours works in seven categories that show exceptional use of graphic design to communicate effectively, tell a story and create a strong sense of place. For the second year in a row, the EGD work for Fort Needham Memorial Park is amongst the finalists.

With the 100th anniversary of the Halifax explosion occurring on December 6, 2017 the design sought to communicate the devastating loss that Halifax experienced on that date by telling the story of the community, its people and the two ships that collided on that fateful day. This project represents the work of Form:Media’s (now Fathom Studio) interpretive planning and design and landscape architecture (Ekistics Plan & Design) teams.

Since 1987, the SEGD Global Design Awards have set the standard of excellence for experiential graphic design—honoring design work that connects people to place by providing direction, storytelling, and compelling experiences in public spaces. The awards celebrate design that inspires and improves the human experience for individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. In all categories, students compete along with professionals and often win Merit and Honor awards.
